For WoW, ONE was definitely not the loneliest number!!

ONE big party. ONE exciting and inspiring evening. ONE more chance to shine in your best party dress. Wow's First Anniversary Gala was ONE night to remember. We were so thrilled that the WoW Community came out to help us blow out our ONE candle! The event was a who's who of the elite wedding industry in Victoria (look for us in the next issue of SNAP Magazine!).

First and foremost, we must give enormous gratitude to this event's Showcase Sponsors, who truly elevated their contributions to the next level for this party.  For the first time, our event's Sponsors even introduced themselves to the record crowd! Congratulations to all for being brave enough to conquer public speaking butterflies.

The festivities took place for the first time at the Parkside Hotel & Spa. The hotel's breathtaking atrium lobby made a picture-perfect backdrop for the beginning of the event, where guests mingled and got ready for their red-carpet close-up.

Cameras were everywhere for this event. Photographer Deanna McCollum captured fabulous paparazzi snaps of WoW Members and industry guests, who outdid themselves in their fanciest black-tie attire. Deanna's photos are used exclusively throughout this post.

Four Frames Photo Booth was set-up to capture more candid, playful moments. Everyone had a blast letting loose. See more of our photo booth silliness on WoW's Facebook page.

Later in the evening, the party moved to Parkside's banquet room, where  Magical Moments Decorating transformed the room into an elegant feast for the eyes. Everywhere we looked was awash with opulent crystal, white, and cobalt blue details. Hardip also created the gorgeous custom letter frames that featured in the red-carpet shots.

Speaking of feasts,Truffles Catering and Victoria Women of Weddings sponsored a scrumptious buffet, abundant with charcuterie, amuse bouches, sweets and other bite-sized morsels. Truffles also offered a custom cocktail to match our cobalt décor.

Jo-Ann Way from Tiers of Joy Cakes custom-designed our birthday cake , and everyone remarked how beautiful it was. We'd like to think that it represented how WoW Members  have opened the book of opportunities for one another. Jo-Ann also created our lovely party favours - the WoW cookies that seemed almost too pretty to eat.

Gala Van Party Shop provided the "foundations" of the event, including the red carpet, tables, chairs and linens. They also created the itinerary board that informed us of the evening's activities.

With a live guitarist in the atrium and DJ Liam spinning in the banquet hall, we never short of music. Airwaves Music set the, ahem,  tone for the entire evening.

WoW also extends a debt of gratitude to our guest event coordinator, Sonya Jones (right) of Sonya Jones Events, who orchestrated the various details to make this party a grand success.

Aurezo Sanari, newly christened as WoW's Director of Member Relations, was on hand to greet guests as they arrived. We always love to see Aurezo's infectious smile.

There were plenty of activities to keep us busy throughout the evening, raising funds to benefit the Victoria Cool-Aid SocietyThe evening's activities -including a 50/50 draw, a silent auction and special prize draws - raised $1754 in total, a testament to the community spirit from WoW.

WoW Members donated over $3000 in gift items for the silent auction. Generous contributors included:

A Sea Of Bloom | Taste West Coast Catering | Willow Stream Spa | Deanna McCollum Photography | Oak Bay Beach Hotel | LA Limousines | Sharon Rai Hair & Makeup Artistry | Tara McHugh Flora | Elise Tonn Designs | Cooks Day Off Fine Foods and Catering | Inn at Laurel Point | DeVine Vineyards | Kazen Hair and Beauty | Butchart Gardens | Dance Your Freedom Studios | Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse | Decorate Victoria with Huff n Puff | BW Prestige Oceanfront Resort and Spa | Your Victoria Wedding | Magical Moments Decorating | Laura Jayne - Acoustically (formerly known as Carpé Diem)

Roger's Chocolates, always a Victoria favourite, donated their famous Ice Wine Truffles. Event attendees purchased 2 for $5, and each box contained a chance to win special prizes for spa services at the Aquaterre Spa at the Parkside.

Founding member (and new mom) Sharon Rai expressed her sincere gratitude for the support WoW has received over the last year from Members, Showcase Sponsors and the wedding industry in general. She shared her vision for the second year for Victoria Women of Weddings.

The highlights of the goals and direction include:

  • introduction of all-inclusive member packages
  • welcome for bridal businesses owned by women and men
  • continued informative workshops to help us grow our businesses
  • expansion of use for WoW Branding materials to create unified brand recognition
  • increase presence on social media
  • elevate profile of Showcase Sponsors by inviting them to introduce themselves and their businesses at events
  • formal recognition of referrals from one WoW Member to another
  • increase involvement with charitable organizations in our community

We can all agree that WoW sure knows how to throw a party! And of course, with the city's best wedding businesses coming together to showcase their talents, this should come as no surprise. We are so excited to continue to grow together in the coming year. Hooray for Victoria WoW's second year!!
