Meet WoW's Founder - Sharon Rai

Posted By Victoria WoW September 21st, 2012

When you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work. Sharon Rai, WoW's founder, adores every detail about weddings, from the exhilaration of showing off your engagement ring for the first time until the moment you begin your walk down the aisle. It seemed a natural fit for Sharon to pursue a career dedicated to helping brides look and feel their most radiant on their wedding day. She launched her business, Sharon Rai Hair & Make-up Artistry in 2008 with the goal of providing luxury on-location and in-studio hair and make-up services. Her business has grown steadily over the last few years. To meet the growing demand for her services, Sharon is constantly expanding her team to include professional hair stylists and make-up artists.

Sharon's Inspiration for WOW

For a bride, planning her wedding day look is one of her first priorities. Inspired by Sharon's obvious passion, as well as her professionalism and expertise, brides sought out Sharon's advice in making other important planning decisions. Sharon found herself creating alliances with other local bridal businesses, many owned by women. These businesses often collaborated together to realize the dreams of their sophisticated clientele.

As Sharon's schedule continued to fill with bookings, she struggled to make time for promoting her own business through activities like attending networking events. Though she attended as many as she had time for, she observed that the connections she was making were not specifically resulting in direct referrals for her business. She began to think: "What if there was a more efficient way for me to spend my promotional budget, my time, and my energy? What if I could spend my time building strategic relationships with businesses in my own niche wedding industry, like the businesses I am already aligned with?"

The answer, Sharon envisioned, was an alliance of premier wedding-related businesses in Victoria. This group would come together monthly to discuss best practices and strategies, learn from one another, showcase each other's services and products, and celebrate the best the wedding industry has to offer. These businesses would also set a standard of excellence in the services offered to brides and their grooms. Finally, this group would be committed to contributing back to their community. A networking community targeted to bridal businesses owned by women, Sharon thought, would focus the owners' time, budget, and energy to building relationships with other businesses that would directly benefit from referrals and collaborative partnerships. And so Women of Weddings came to be.
