How did your company get started? How did you get into your field of expertise?
Although I am professionally trained, a lot of my experience stems from entertaining over the years. I grew up on many a shindig. I have the party hosting gene. As for formal training, I took a course from QC Wedding and Event Planning. I graduated with Honours as a “Certified International Wedding and Event Planner” (IWEP). Although I then had a solid knowledge of planning and researching for putting an event together within a budget, I wanted hands on decorating training from professionals in the industry. I decided on a the International Wedding and Event Design program held in Florida which was fully hands on, all equipment supplied, and loaded with practical knowledge on decorating from the aisle, head table, backdrops, and ceilings. It was exciting and intensive. I graduated as an Accredited Event Designer (AED). I also took more than a dozen business seminars through Small Business B.C for marketing, importing and making a business plan. I also have a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from UBC. I appreciate the many cultures that exist, and I believe this background has been useful in working with a wide variety of brides. I am addicted to continuing education and belonging to WOW really is useful in this quest. Knowing about new ideas and resources is valuable.
What are you most passionate about professionally?
What most excites you about your business & the contribution you can make?
“Oh, Anne – she’s your go-to girl for big parties”. Big parties are definitely my passion. I have a reputation for designing large parties and creating a great atmosphere for guests. I love lots of details for guests to experience. I love working with weddings because they are usually big events and every wedding couple wants to create something unique. I enjoy finding the things that make guests say “wow, I can’t believe they thought of that”.
What makes your business unique?
My Party Mood business is best known as a source of interesting rental décor items that aren’t usually for rent. As well, I am known as creative decorator. I’m not sure that Party Mood is known for this, but I know it, and that is that I believe in good old fashioned hard work and going the extra mile, even at the end of a long day. Don’t stop until it’s perfect.
