How did your company get started? How did you get into your field of expertise?
Truffles Catering has been Victoria's leading catering company for over 22 years. It started as a small family oriented catering business and blossomed into a a full event service, gourmet catering company under a larger umbrella called the Truffles Group. I personally have been in the hospitality business and event planning for over 15 years, with Truffles Catering since 2010. I grew up with a catering family and feel very comfortable in this field. After attending university in Ottawa I was set on other sights however event planning and catering came naturally and fell into my lap, I have since planned and catered numerous events throughout North America.
What are you most passionate about professionally?
What most excites you about your business & the contribution you can make?
Professionally I am most passionate about helping the client to achieve their desired goal. I love working with people and expanding on ideas and then making them come to life. When I see my clients face after they walk into their event for the first time or chat with them after service I am and thrilled that our team was able to accomplish this with them. The excitement comes from creating a special event or menu with a client and allowing them to have control, to see their excitement and feed off of that. We work together, I help guide clients with menus and event planning to achieve their desired goals within their budgets. In this business making clients happy is the first order of operations. I am so pleased to work with Truffles Catering as the company has a lasting reputation on Vancouver Island, we are a very invested company with a strong business culture, it is an exciting place to work. I consider myself lucky!
What makes your business unique?
Truffles Catering is unique because we are a full service catering company. We do not feel there is any event too small or too large to handle we are able to assist with every aspect of your event. We are also very invested in the local community with sponsorships and community programs. Truffles Catering is also a 98% waste free catering company. As you may know it is a daunting feat to have a food and beverage company reduce its carbon foot print that substantially, we pride ourselves on making sure we can attain realistic "green" goals and keep our business sustainable.
What inspiring quote best describes your business or your passion for brides, weddings, love, etc.?
"When nothing goes right... go left!" Weddings can run absolutely perfect but there can also be couple of hiccups, in our business as in relationships we have to roll with the punches and carry on. This quote best describes what our business is all about and is also a fabulous mantra for relationships.
What was the most rare/interesting/quirky request you’ve had from a bride or groom?
How did you make it happen for them?
There really isn't an rare request because if we can make it happen we will. I think hardest one for us is when a couple will ask us to make it stop raining as much as we do our sun dance it rarely works :( Having a rain plan is your best defense.
What would your dream wedding include? Even if you have already had yours, what would you have changed?
My dream wedding would be small and quaint with some of my best friends and family no more than 30 people. Dinner and dancing in a vineyard or on a beach. Simple elegance with a funky twist. It would be a plated meal with everyone seated at one table, dancing to follow.
Describe a situation or experience in your work that you are most proud of, that you found to be rewarding, inspiring or even funny…
I am sure all event planners will say the same thing, each event is special. When you know that you have "knocked it out of the park" for your client then you can't help but be proud of your work and the teams that put it together. Working with such a professional team of servers and chefs at Truffles Catering is inspiring as we all strive for excellence.
